AHiL's Layer Insanity Styles by JesseLax AHiL's Layer Insanity Styles by JesseLax
What's a "Multi-Layer Layer Style"?
In method, it is the action of repeating the exact same blank shape layer over and over with new styles placed on each to create one combined spell-bounding effect. This is usually an Intermediate to Advanced photoshop design technique. Multi-layer styles can create stunning effects for virtually anything from UI to Text elements. I've presented these here in only a few finals for the sake of beginners moving into a new level of Blending Options understanding. Please explore them freely, and be sure to examine every aspect of each Blending Option to see how they were created!

Because I believe in hands-on learning for beginners, this file
does not contain a .ASL filetype. Rather it's a full .PSD with the
LayerStyles on their own layer. I will not update this to include
one. Please do feel free to save them yourself however you like.

This resource is meant to be free.

You're welcome to use this in any way you see fit, for any
project commercial or otherwise... with the single
exception
of selling these styles as styles. I would
appreciate it immensely if you respected the philanthropy
of this contribution to other artists.

Enjoy!

These styles were created for you to learn how to use layer styles. Because I believe in hands-on learning, I have intentionally not included the usual .ASL file so that you'll actually take the time to learn Photoshop. It's a simple process to save them from the .PSD (like two clicks) - perhaps using layer styles will be more "convenient" for you in the future if you use the wealth of the internet at your fingertips to learn how to install them without a .ASL?

Of that I'm not entirely sure. I haven't been keeping up with GIMP/Photoshop compatibility. Could you let me know either way? :D

Oh no! I'm terribly sorry.

It's odd though. PSD's should be compatible with Mac and Windows regardless the source. Hmm.
Which version of Photoshop are you using?

no worries Jess, it just would not even allow me to save the files to my comp, was a white screen ya know? But I am going to try it a different way, so I shall see if it works or not and I will let you know once I have given that a go. I am using the newest version of Photoshop.

Wow these are awesome! Your work is so clean, nice and professional. Thanks for sharing them with us for free and doing it in a way so we can also actually learn how to. It's an often thankless task and people will be malicious, stealing work and claiming as their own, so I always appreciate it when someone like you takes the time to still share with us. Hope you have a great day, keep up the awesome work!

Anytime, really, it's the least I could do! People like you make my day, because not only do I get to have awesome stuff to work with that is fun, but it also makes me happy to know there are still nice people who like to share in the world. I make an effort to share what I can, but I'm not that skilled, so unfortunately don't have as much to offer, but hey, I make sure to let people know when I appreciate them! (sorry for taking like...2 months to respond btw...lol)

Cool! I'm so happy to help!!

There's a about six billion people better than I am out there---but unlike most of them, I like giving my shit out for free because I know people need it. Definitely check out the first two "See Also" links at the bottom of this one. The Varied Glass is nice to have on hand (I still use it even though it's old as hell), and the Plasticity styles are off the hook for something different. ;)

Your compliments and enthusiasm really made my day. Thanks, bro!

Well I did tried one day to understand the blending on them... I mean, I know some blending, but never got on this level. You, my dear, gave me some 'homework' to do, hehe.
But thanks, once again!

LOL!!! Yes, they're quite the challenge aren't they??

Ideally it's here to illustrate how a person can continue to design an plain element by piling layer styles on top of one another. So if you look at the first layer in each folder as the "Base", each successive layer has a new Layer Style added on top to enhance the previous. It's really essential to have an intermediate understanding of layer Blending Options in order to begin understanding how the "outside the box" use of each option was implemented. Practically speaking, they're not worth a damn. Maybe for super hi-res text or minor design elements something... but really... what could you use these for? So yeah, my purpose was about your learning your blending options and what things you could create without using anything but a solid white circle.

For me personally, I tend to use my Blending Options less for basic method applications. I got really bored looking at other people's layer styles and thought "there has to be more I can be doing with these than just click once and done!". Now I approach them as tools for quickly enhancing existing elements I that might otherwise labor over by hand. When I look at them in that way, I'm able to see options like "Bevel and Emboss" and "Satin" as new ways to light or otherwise affect an object. That sort of insight allows for things like this Layer Insanity Styles, where I can add in specific Style elements without feeling restricted to the basics.
